RANT: Evil Never Sleeps

Posted in rants on February 27th, 2003 by r3v

War is upon us and we must remember that the enemy is EVIL and if given half the chance they would invade our homes and try to take over our lives. They are insidious, devious and determined. They must be stopped at any cost. I think, if necessary, our President should even employ nuclear (or even nuc-yoo-ler) weapons against them.

No, I’m not talking about Iraq, North Korea or even Al-Queda. It’s the damned telemarketers you gotta watch out for.

What? You think I’m kidding? Read this article at CNN.

A new telemarketting tool that can defeat the Telezapper and is able to “dodge such phone company privacy services as SBC’s Privacy Manager and Sprint’s Privacy ID, both of which reject calls that don’t provide caller ID information.”

The telemarketers are LIARS (not to mention soul-less spawns of evil born in pits of bile and brimstone, with big goat horns and.. and.. hooves and teeth as big as your leg! But I digress.) You see, they claim that they do not want to call people who don’t want to be called. That’s why (they say) they are self-policing their industry with a shared “do not call” list.

Apparently that’s grade-A-straight-from-the-bovine’s-ass bullshit.

If I’m attempting to block their calls, I obviously don’t want them. If they’re trying to circumvent me blocking them, they obviously don’t care what I want.

That’s evil.

Stop attacking my privacy.

feh.

PS: On a bright note: The Federal Trade Commission has said its Do Not Call list will begin collecting names this summer and be in operation by the fall. Telemarketers who phone listed numbers can be fined up to $11,000 for each violation.

Just got back from target="_blank">DD. Ok, no spoilage here… but I will say: Wow! I am
impressed. Way better than I expected. Out all the recent comic book
flicks… hell, perhaps any comic book movie ever (not counting href="http://us.imdb.com/Title?0109506" target="_blank">The Crow, of
course)… that was the most three-dimensional superhero on the screen so
far. Damn fine job by Affleck as well as the rest of the cast. Elektra
(while not as… uh, Elektra as I’d have liked her to be) was cool.
Bullseye ROCKED. And the number of cameos/tributes was impressive.

Comic fans were also treated to href="http://us.imdb.com/Title?0290334" target="_blank">X-men 2 and href="http://us.imdb.com/Title?0286716" target="_blank">Hulk trailers.
Good year for movie-going geeks, I tells ya. ;) (Also saw a preview for
The Phone
Booth
which looks intriguing.)

DD gets 5 out of 5 crime-fighting blind guys.

Blosxom 1.2

Finally upgraded from 0.5i to 1.2. Appears to have gone off without a
hitch… which, after run through my Cynicismatic2000, implies that something
somewhere is FUBAR.

Hmmm…

My latest batch of movies arrived from DeepDiscountDVD.com. I got six movies
on five DVDs. :) Black Hawk Down, Hellraiser, El Mariachi/Desperado,
Suicide Kings
and Vampires.

Hellraiser is a classic in the modern horror genre. My DVD collection
felt a little too… too… un-hellish without Pinhead represetin’. So, I
finally have added it to the collection.

Also sort of in the horror genre is Vampires (aka John Carpenter’s
Vampires
). Now, I swear, the first time I saw this movie I thought it
sucked. (edit: doh. No pun intended.) I thought, “Sure Woods is cool, but ugh!”
A couple friends told me I just had to watch it again (a couple of times) and
somehow it grew on me. Maybe I saw something in it that I didn’t see the first
couple of times. Something that I just can’t put my finger on. Something…

Or maybe James Woods is just so fucking cool and such a bad-ass vampire-killer
that all is forgiven. :)

Also, allow this blog-entry to be a recommendation for anyone who likes
black (that’s black as in dark, not black as in Martin Lawrence ;) comedies
to see Suicide Kings. It’s a brilliant comedy with a great cast. It
reminds me of Last Supper and Very Bad Things.

Anyways… I’m gonna go try and see DD tonight. Hope it doesn’t suck.

RANT: France Needs to Get Smacked.

Posted in rants on February 18th, 2003 by r3v

France should shut the hell up. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying everyone who disagrees with the U.S. (in whatever way/shape/form) needs to keep quiet… just fucking France.

Today, French President Jacques Chirac verbally slammed various Eastern European countries for supporting the U.S. stance on Iraq. France essentially stated that open support of the U.S. on this matter might affect these countries being admitted to the EU.

wtf?

Can we just kick France out of NATO already? Fuck they’re annoying.

I’m not even completely pro-war on the matter. (Note: I’m not anti-war either. I think Saddam needs to die, or at least step down. Preferably just die though.) France is just so freaking anti-U.S. that they’ve begun to whine and threaten when any other Europeans don’t agree with them.

I’m not saying France has to agree with the U.S. I’m not even saying they are wrong for opposing us. Whatever. Just like a person, they’re entitled to their own opinion.

But so are the Polish, Hungarians, Czechs, Romanians and Bulgarians… get it, Chirac?

It’s not like all of the EU is in agreement anyway. Spain, Italy, Denmark and Portugal are among those that have voiced support for the U.S. stance. France criticizing EU hopefuls for taking a stance that several EU members nations already have is damned close to hypocracy.

If France was a person, I’d say he was a loud-mouthed, sanctimonious prick and whiney git.

And a CESM.

Well you can be! With a small purchase on eBay you can buy what’s being
referred to as a “Premiere” Slashdot account. The seller claims that
the account has a low user number (meaning it’s been around a long
time) and good karma.

That’s right, karma for sale.

The Auction
is certainly one of the odder things I’ve seen for sale on eBay.
By no means is it the strangest, but it certainly ranks right up there.

Kim Jong-il Never Saw War Games

Could someone please loan North Korean leader Kim Jong-il their copy of
WarGames.
You see, according to

CNN
, he’s never seen it.

Saddam Bans Weapons of Mass Destruction; Whitehouse Skeptical

Posted in news on February 14th, 2003 by r3v

Whew! We can all relax now. Saddam Hussein has banned the import and production
of weapons of mass destrction in Iraq.
According to the article, “the move drew
a skeptical response from Washington.”

I think the actual quote from Donald Rumsfeld was: “Shyeahright! We’ll immediate
begin steps to stand down from Operation Kick Your Sorry Ass… not. Good one, Saddam.”

Apparently, Saddam ordered his ministers to “punish those who don’t adhere to [the decree].”
Top Iraqi ministers and advisors immediately began spanking each other and giggling.

Whitehouse spokesman, Ari Fleisher, commented, “it was actually kind of creepy.”

In related news, North Korea released a decree today that simply read: “Us too!”
