Copy Protected CD (Outkast)

Posted in rants on November 27th, 2003 by r3v

Oh, and I also got Outkast’s latest (double) album, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. The only reason I bought the physical CD instead buying it through iTMS is that right now iTMS only has the clean version and I want the uncensored. (Usually it has both.)

This morning, I was having a hard time ripping it to MP3/AAC though and was beginning to think it may be “copy protected.” So I searched the web to see if anyone else had any similar problems. Yup, it’s copy protected.

Looks like lots Arista (the label) is copy protecting most of it’s stuff.

Fucking evil fuckwads. They sold me a defective product!

DVD Spree

Last night, I went crazy at Tower and added several DVDs to my collection. I bought X2, The Indy Boxed Set, Housse of 1000 Corpses, The Two Towers, Dark City and Enter the Dragon. (25th Anniversary Special Edition Enter the Dragon no less… for like 7 bucks. 102 minutes of waaah-paa! remastered Dolby Digital 5.1 for 7 bucks! That simply cannot be beat.)

Ballmer’s iPod

Hah! (Flash Req’d.) If you don’t get it, read the production notes. If you still don’t get it… well, good for you. MacBoy is brilliant. He’s got some other fun spoofs and stuff, look around.

Other Players

I love multiplayer games on the ‘net. Their major strength is also their major weakness though: other players.

Penny Arcade has a great strip summing up the experience of playing any of the first person shooters.

Identity

While we were on vacation, we watched
<href=”http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0309698/” target=”_blank”>Identity</A>
on DVD. It’s a great thriller staring John Cusack, Ray Liotta and several
other familiar faces. Great twists and turns. Grisly murders. I highly
recommend it if you’re in the mood for a gritty (with a touch of gruesome)
thriller. 4 out of 5 gruesome corpses.

Back from Seattle

We’re back from our 5 day jaunt to Seattle. It was a fun trip. We saw Seattle’s Museum of Flight (including a tour aboard the Air Force One that served Kennedy, and got to see the Concorde from the ground (it will be open for tours next week)), the Seattle Aquarium and the Pike Market among other things. On Friday night we went out drinking and I drank way too much at a local Irish pub. Way too much. There’s a bunch of stuff we didn’t do… we’ll have to try to get to some of it on the next trip.

Annette’s friend Caitlin let us stay in her condo while she stayed with her boyfriend, Brian. They were great hosts and Brian makes for a fun tour guide.

Ironic bit #1: Didn’t really rain while we were in Seattle, but it rained in San Jose while we were gone.

Ironic bit #2: After 5 days in the Seattle cold weather, I catch a cold on my first morning back in San Jose. wtf?!

iTMS is Time’s "Invention of the Year"

Posted in Apple on November 10th, 2003 by r3v

We’ve gotten a lot of praise (and a bit of flame, of course) for the iTunes Music Store… but it’s kind of cool being called the Invention of the Year by Time Magazine.

iTMS apparently beat out Camera Phones, Water Purifiers, Toyota’s Hybrid Car
and the Nasal-Mist Flu Shot. An eclectic category, I’d say…

Site Layout/Blosxom 2.0

Posted in personal on November 2nd, 2003 by r3v

Ok, rearranged the layout a bit. Nothing major, but when I upgraded my blog software (Blosxom rules!) to 2.0, I was able to take advantages of some plugins. I will prolly be tweaking it over the next few weeks.

It looks better in certain browsers than in others. (Safari > Mac IE > Win Firebird > Win IE … go fig. ) However, since it looks best in Safari… well, if it doesn’t look good in the rest, who cares? I mean, considered my target audience using Safari and all. (That’d be me, btw.)

If anything’s broken, let me know. (email link at the top.)

No, I still haven’t CSS’d the site. Lay off, man. Just lay off.
