Music Sharing, The Old Fashioned Way

Posted in misc on October 31st, 2004 by r3v

I’m sharing my small, but hearty, collection of fun lovin’ gangsta rap with my upstairs neighbors. I’m sharing it through the ceiling because I think they’ll like it best that way. After all, it’s how they often share their lovley collection of disco with me. I hope they like Dr Dre, Snoop, Eminem, Cypress Hill, House of Pain, DMX… X gon’ give it to ya.

iPod Elitism in T-Shirt Form

Posted in funny on October 30th, 2004 by r3v

Heh, finally a way for us old school iPod owners to show how much cooler we are.

Heh. R. Stevens over at Diesel Sweeties makes me laugh often. I already own a couple of books and shirts that he’s done. I’d get the iPod one if it wasn’t white, and I love the Twenty Sided Winner, despite the red. :)

My Political Leaning?

Posted in misc, political on October 30th, 2004 by r3v

Being a staunch moderate, people closer to either end of the political spectrum are often confused about where I stand. Now, generally I just chalk this up to both the left and right being stupid, but I do understand how it might be confusing to some folk. That’s why I’ve decided to make it a little clearer….

I’m pro-choice, pro-gun, pro-euthenasia, pro-capital punishment…

That’s right. I’m looking to join the pro-death party.

La Preciosa

Posted in misc on October 30th, 2004 by r3v

From the Mercury:

KSJO-FM (92.3), a rock station for 36 years, switched over just after 7 p.m. to an oldies hit format called “La Preciosa.” The final complete English song played was Wall of Voodoo’s “Mexican Radio.”

*sigh* …and another major piece of my youth is obliterated. And it had such a glorious start:

KSJO began as a rocker in San Jose in 1968. It had started in 1947 as the only station in the county with an all-female staff; thus the female symbol on its stickers that remained for years after.

Farewell, KSJO.

Nintendo Decides Not to Sue SuicideGirls

Posted in news on October 29th, 2004 by r3v

This is the best thread of news I’ve followed in months.

Short version: One of the members (RuneLateralus) (not even an SG) on the site listed a couple of Nintendo’s game titles as favorites in his profile. Nintendo’s law firm notices, apparently during their patrol of adult related sites for any mention of Nintendo trademarks. Said law firm fires off a cease and desist letter to Sean at SGHQ. Sean essentially says “go for it” and tells ‘em he’d appreciate the free press. Nintendo (NOT the lawfirm) then writes Sean and says, “Uh, yeah. This whole thing was a big misunderstanding. We’re sorry and we’d like to give RuneLateralus an apology as well… and, uh.. some free stuff. Please?” Awesome.

Long version via links: BoingBoing article 1, opening shots. BoingBoing article 2, an update. BoingBoing article 3, the apology. And, finally, the entire thread over on SG.

Shortest and funniest version: Thanks to PennyArcade.

That’s Not Art, Bitch

Posted in rants on October 28th, 2004 by r3v

Usually, when the art/not art debate comes up, I side with the artist. Even if I think it’s crap, or I don’t get it, or whatever. Art is subjective. If you think a painting of a big blue duck is art, great. Spiffy. If you think a photograph of a pile of dog crap is art, wonderful. Good on ya. Go on with your bad self.

Hey, even if you think pictures of dead animals is art… ok, neato. Good for you. Not my cup o tea, but thats fine.

However, some fucking bitch (and I would like to point out that I am being as nice as I can muster here) is killing animals and then photographing them. Her name is Nathalia Edenmont. ( And for the sake of googlism, let’s be clear: Nathalia Edenmont is a fucking bitch. ) The Wetterling Gallery is displaying her work, and has posted a newsletter defending her work.

It’s no surprise to me, that I agree with most of it. I just don’t agree with the conclusion. Now, I’m not the type that would protest or write the gallery or whatever. But what I will say, is this:

Nathalia Edenmont needs to do a self-portrait.

Annual Mandatory Professional Introspection

Posted in misc on October 28th, 2004 by r3v

Here I sit. Messing around online. Updating my blog. Updating my SG journal. Watching the Daily Show on TiVo. Waiting for my salmon-feta-spinach roast to be done cooking. Sipping Zinfandel I bought from my winemaker friend.

… putting of writing my Annual Performance Self Review for work.

I so hate writing this thing. You’d thing after being at this company for the better part of a decade (btw, omg) I’d have gotten blase about this or developed some method for churning one out without any effort.

Nope. I hate it. And I am power-procrastinating.

I’m good at my job. I get raises, bonuses, stock and most important of all, kudos. Ok, not *the* most important part, but ya know what I mean. I know I am good at my job and my management knows I am good. why do I have to go through this grueling task every year? And why is it so painful? I hate writing about myself, I guess (nevermind that I maintain both a blog)… I don’t know. I guess it feels like bragging and I really just don’t do that. Despite how often I do, honestly, rock.

Oh, dinner’s ready!

Damn Shame…

In a time machine.

In 1999.

What am I talking about? This.

Slayer Tuesday

Posted in misc on October 27th, 2004 by r3v

That’s what I’ve officially dubbed today. You see, with heavier music becoming more acceptable by the mainstream, stuff like Rob Zombie, System of a Down and Megadethh just don’t keep people at bay. But sometimes I need some time alone in my office with my code and a good Perl book.

That’s when I turn to my friends: Slayer. Granted, there’s plenty of heavy hitting bands like Otep or that I can use to blare unfriendly soundwaves at cow-orkers… but the holy trinity of Slayer albums (Seasons in the Abyss,
South of Heaven, Reign In Blood) are a proven, time-honored method.

Rock of Ages

Posted in misc, tattoos, travel on October 19th, 2004 by r3v

Well, made it to Rock of Ages Tattoo Convention in OC this weekend. Annette got a *kick-ass* piece done by Tim Kern (very cool guy) on Friday though. It serously rocks and SO should have taken Tattoo of the Day on friday. Totally robbed. Everybody loved the piece and a photographer from took a buncha shots. It’d be neat to see my girl in a Japanese tattoo mag. Neat and maybe a little surreal.

Saturday, I think we managed to maintain a pleasantly drunk level throughout the day without causing the drive home on Sunday to be in the midst of a hangover. Saturday we even met a couple of SGs.

Work has been hell recently, but I’m gonna take Thursday and Friday off this week for some just plain ole downtime.
